According to an Aug. 16 tweet from Breanna Armstrong, the critically-acclaimed managing editor of Ultimate MMA Magazine may have captured the photo of the year at RFA 9 in California, as she was able to get six of the leading ladies in female combat sports to get together for a spontaneous bestie moment.
"Fun here at @RFAfighting! @RachaelCummins @feliceherrig @CarlaEsparza1 @JordanMcDonald @JessicaPenne @TiffTimeBomb pic.twitter.com/XS1WmU7i3b," Armstrong tweeted.
Armstrong, who was covering RFA 9 on behalf of Ultimate MMA Magazine, saw an opportunity to get six of the most popular women in female combat sports together for a photo op, and there wasn't a chance she was going to let it slip away.
"Lol I couldn't pass up the opportunity to get all the girls together," Armstrong tweeted to a fan, shortly after the photo was posted.
Armstrong's photo featured Invicta FC strawweight contender Felice Herrig, California-based submission ace Rachael Cummins, former Invicta FC atomweight champ Jessica Penne, Muay Thai champion Tiffany Van Soest, Invicta FC strawweight champ Carla Esparza and Tuff-N-Uff veteran Jordan McDonald.
Gina Carano, former Strikeforce and EliteXC standout, was also in attendance for the RFA fights.
The ladies were on hand for an exciting night of fights, which included Pedro Munhoz defeating Jeff Curran by Split Decision and Kevin Casey handily beating Casey Ryan in a Unanimous Decision.
The RFA 9 main card also saw Brian Ortega defeating Jordan Rinaldi by Submission (Triangle Choke) at 2:29 in the third round, and Alan Jouban stopping Chris Spang via TKO.
Some of the fights lacked excitement, but having close to a dozen WMMA legends on hand certainly helped spruce up the evening.
