Actor Russell Johnson from “Gilligan’s Island,” a TV sitcom hit from the 60s, died at 89. Johnson died peacefully of natural causes at his Washington state home, according to Fox News reports on Jan. 16.
The television and film actor played the role of the “Professor” on “Gilligan’s Island” with co-stars Bob Denver, Alan Hale, Jr., Jim Backus, Natalie Shafer, Tina Louise and Dawn Wells.
Tina Louis and Dawn Wells are the only surviving cast members from the show which ran on air from September 26, 1964 to September 4, 1967.
Dawn Wells, who played “Mary Anne” on the TV hit series, offered her condolences on her Facebook fan page by contributing to the world, a loving picture of Johnson with his wife Constance along a tribute statement of the late actor, “A picture of Russell and his lovely wife Connie. Russell was a true gentleman, a good father, a great friend, and "the rest".
I love him and shall miss him. My heart goes out to Connie and his daughter Kim. I love you.”
The other surviving cast member, Tina Louis, played the role of "Ginger."
Russell Johnson is survived by his daughter Kim – his daughter from the first marriage with his late wife, Kay Cousins who died in 1980 – along with his second wife, Constance Dane; they were both by his side at the time of his passing.
