Hollywood sources have confirmed that Josh Gad, Tony-nominated star of 'Book of Mormon' and the voice of the talking snowman in the new holiday release 'Frozen' will portray the title role in the new Warner Brothers film remake of the 1960s hit TV series Gilligan's Island.
The jury is still out on who will portray the remaining roles of the Skipper, Ginger, Mary Ann, the Professor, and Mr. and Mrs. Howell. But Caprice Crane, daughter of the original Ginger, Tina Louise, told TODAY that she would like to see the Professor as 'the gay one' and Jennifer Lawrence in her mother's former role of the red-haired Hollywood bombshell.
Many fans have voiced ideas on who could and should be cast as the rest of the gang to take the 3-hour tour, and we have some ideas of our own. Check out this casting lineup in our slideshow: Gilligan's Island new movie casting.
One thing is certain - news of the remake is met with divided opinions among fans of the beloved Sherwood Schwartz series, who are calling for a more realistic approach to the storyline and a departure from slapstick comedy. And Warner Bros. may have to pull in some big names to help Gad pull off what could either be a huge hit, or a giant flop.
