Gilligan's Island: Josh Gad to star in and write new movie

“Gilligan’s Island” – the very popular television series from the 1960 – is going to be made into a movie. Josh Gad, who was the star of “Book of Mormon,” is involved with the motion picture, according to NBC on Thursday. He was also the voice of Frozen’s talking snowman in the film “Frozen.”

Though the motion picture studio – Warner Bros. - isn’t saying which part, Gad has a part in the movie, and he is also one of the writers involved with the screenplay. Besides Gad, Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez will also be involved with the writing of the script.

Lloyd and Ross Schwartz – who are the children of Sherwood Schwartz, the man who produced the original television series – will be executive produce the project with Cathy Silvers and Tracey Silvers. Sherwood Schwartz passed away three years ago.

The inspiration for the movie, the “Gilligan’s Island” television program, was broadcast on CBS from 1964 to 1967. The show was about seven comical characters who were shipwrecked on a boat called the S.S. Minnow. The characters one can expect to see in the film again are Gilligan, the Skipper, an actress named Ginger, the Professor, Mary Ann, and the Howells – a married couple who were millionaires.
