Gilligan's Island Movie 2014: Remake movie release date a mystery, cast search

Gilligan’s Island movie 2014 is a hotly trending topic this weekend, and with the search for an ideal cast on and a release date still a mystery, there are a lot of important questions that haven’t been decided upon yet for this huge remake film. While some early castings are allegedly underway, no set release date has been given, though it is expected that a complete list of actors and actresses to star in the lead roles will be set into place before the end of the year. The Inquisitr shares what rumors are hinting at so far on this exciting film project this Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014.

The Gilligan’s Island movie 2014 remake was starkly brought back into the pop culture spotlight this week with the recent passing of Russell Johnson at age 89, the beloved actor who starred as the professor on “Gilligan’s Island.”

There is one bit of casting news that has been (albeit allegedly) “confirmed” in recent weeks. Josh Gad is rumored to not only be playing a major role on the silver screen itself for the classic television show’s adaptation, but will also be working behind the scenes as a writer as well. More information on the front of funnyman of Josh Gad working with the project can be found here. Whether he’ll play Gilligan or Skipper yet remains another big question.

The other (pun intended) castaway roles are still left open for this Gilligan’s Island movie remake, including the Professor himself, Mr. and Mrs. Howell, Mary Ann, and of course the iconic Ginger.

It is Caprice Crane — Tina Louise’s daughter, a star of the original “Gilligan’s Island” series cast — believes that the role her mother played on the small screen (Ginger) is going to be one of the hardest spots to find a solid actress for.

“They’re going to have their work cut out for them finding someone who is as awesome and gorgeous and funny as my mom.”

Caprice has also made her thoughts known on the Gilligan’s Island movie 2014 project in another interesting, if controversial way: she believes that the upcoming film can be more modern by making it clear that the Professor is gay.

“My mom was constantly coming on to the Professor on the show, and he was never into it. So the Professor could be the gay one. It would explain a lot. It would be fun if they shake it up, make it worthy of today’s times.”

According to the press release on the highly anticipated film and its still unknown release date:

“The original Gilligan’s Island TV show aired for three seasons from 1964 to 1967. And it’s not like this will be the first Gilligan’s Island movie since there were several made-for-TV releases back in the 1970′s and 1980′s. But Josh Gad’s take on the show will be the first ever remake. Gad is famous for his role in the Book of Mormon and the recently released Frozen. He’ll also be writing the show with Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez. But the sons of Sherwood Schwartz, who produced the original TV show, will also be on the project as producers.”

Who do you feel might make a great cast in the search for the new “Gilligan’s Island” movie?
