This has seemed like an especially crazy and fruitful year for Utah, and all of it will be potential fodder for SLAC’s upcoming production of “Saturday’s Voyeur.” Before the show opens June 30 (tickets are available online) the acting company has been offering brief recaps of the year’s wildest news for those who may be forgetful but still want to get all of the show’s jokes (the recaps seem to be available only to e-mail list subscribers. Some of the news stories that will surely make an appearance were big enough that you can find them pretty much anywhere - the two guys kissing on Temple Square, for example - and at the same time are probably engrained deeply enough into the memory that you don’t need to. It’s the not quite-as spectacular stories that may have gotten pushed to the side that tend to make for the most satisfying revisit, with moods that range from the sublimely ridiculous to the surprisingly somber.
On the ridiculous side is Orrin Hatch’s “Eight Days of Hannukah” video, which was big enough that it actually made it into the New York Times along with the Tribune. On a more serious note is the artifact sting in Blanding, far enough away that some Salt Lake residents barely registered it. And, of course, most of the state’s greatest hits were memorialized by a Pat Bagley cartoon, which are archived on the Tribune’s website.
