Spoiled today Aug. 30, 2013 during PAX Prime, Gift of Immortality is one of the newest cards revealed from Wizards of the Coast's upcoming expert "Magic: The Gathering" expansion set "Theros" (the other is Reverent Hunter). This rare white aura won't make your creature indestructible, however it will keep it from staying in the graveyard long enough to decompose.
Gift of Immortality - 2W
Enchantment - Aura (Rare)
When enchanted creature dies, return that card to the battlefield under its owner's control. Return Gift of Immortality to the battlefield attached to that creature at the beginning of the next end step.
One way to abuse Gift of Immortality is with creatures that have significantly strong "enters the battlefield" abilities.
Several powerful creatures to give Gift of Immortality to include:
- Angel of Serenity
- Armada Wurm
- Foundry Champion
- Jace's Mindseeker
- Lavinia of the Tenth
- Luminate Primordial
- Shadowborn Demon
Those are just a few examples, and there are many more to choose from.
Your creature won't be completely invulnerable: They'll have to survive until the end of turn for Gift of Immortality to come back and enchant them again.
Gift of Immortality is particularly interesting when you have an Ajani's Chosen on the battlefield. Sticking Gift of Immortality on a creature that you can sacrifice (or just sacrificing the creature to another card) will ensure that Gift or Immortality enters the battlefield every turn, netting you a 2/2 cat creature token.
This author personally can't wait to cast Gift of Immortality on Voice of Resurgence. Can you say value?
How will you use Gift of Immortality?
