File under: Criquet update. The polo shirt obsession that started back in June continues on to this day and will likely continue well into 2014. Spring is, afterall, right around the corner, and nothing embraces that season like a fresh and jaunty polo. So far, it must be mentioned, no company I’ve encountered makes a polo shirt quite like the folks at Criquet.
Made with 100% certified organic cotton, Criquet has managed to come up with a series of shirts that are as good for a day in the office as they are on the golf course, or more importantly, at the 19th hole. The short sleeve “Players” shirts ($75) are simply brilliant. The light material drapes like a tee shirt while the classic polo structure keeps everything tidy and handsome. The crisp spread collar keeps its shape thanks to the short removable (and recyclable) stays tucked away on either side, and the overall fit is just right. In fact, their XL feels like it was custom-made just for me. The bulkier piqué weave of the long sleeve Players shirt ($95) wears like a light sweatshirt, but thanks to its polo shirt appointments, the overall look is quite refined. This shirt is right at home doing weekend chores or brunch at the Kitchen Door with a crisp glass of Gruner Veltliner.
After owning these shirts for four months, I can honestly tell you that they just keep getting better. I wear them all the time, and though they felt like old favorites right from the get-go, they’ve become new favorites, making their way from test subjects to the shirts I wear almost every day.
