Volusia County Sheriff’s deputies and Daytona Beach Police officers will be giving away gift cards to people who turn in their guns Thursday, as part of the Kicks for Guns campaign. Daytona Beach Police will accept guns from 7 Thursday morning until 7 Thursday night at the John H. Dickerson Center at 308 South Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard. Police say unwanted guns can be dropped off with no questions asked. Police will exchange gift cards of up to $50 as long as the supply lasts.
Daytona Police say all guns should be unloaded and safely secured. If you cannot unload the gun safely before you arrive at the Dickerson Center, leave the gun locked in your vehicle and a police officer will retrieve the gun with you.
For directions to the Dickerson Center, call 386-871-5224. Police add that over 900 guns have been turned in by the Daytona Beach community over the past four years during the Kicks for Guns campaign.
Volusia Sheriff’s Office gun turn-in
The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office will exchange one $50 Walmart gift card with residents who turn in their guns Thursday. Sheriff’s spokesperson Gary Davidson says the drop-off point will be at the Volusia County Fairgrounds at 3150 East New York Avenue, just east of Deland. Sheriff Ben Johnson said, “This is a great program that has a lot of community support, and we’re proud to once again be a part of it. If it prevents even one violent crime or one curious child, reckless teen or careless adult from accidental death or injury, it will have been well worth it.”
The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office will also exchange guns for gift cards from 7 Thursday morning until 7 Thursday night. The gift cards were purchased, “…with funds confiscated in criminal cases.” All guns must be unloaded, placed in a plastic bag and secured safely. All guns should be left in your vehicle until a Sheriff’s deputy safely removes them.
Volusia residents can also call to have guns picked up
Volusia County residents can also request that a deputy pick up their unwanted guns and bring them a gift card, by calling one of the following phone numbers Thursday, and then pressing option 3: (386) 736-5999, (386) 248-1777 or (386) 423-3888.
The Sheriff’s Office says they will accept BB-guns and replica guns as well, but gift cards will not be exchanged for those items.
