Cleveland, OH 1/31/2012- Daniel “Boobie” Gibson stayed in Boston following the Cavaliers stunning victory Sunday night in Boston. Gibson was in-active for the game with a sore neck. Gibson stayed at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center to receive further testing on his neck. He was examined by Dr. Elliot Chaikof, Surgeon-in-Chief and Chairman, Department of Surgery, and Dr. Robert Frankenthaler, Chief Division of Otolaryngology, with Cavaliers Assistant Athletic Trainer Stephen Spiro in attendance. Daniel Gibson was diagnosed with a soft tissue infection in his neck, and is being treated with antibiotics. Gibson remained in Boston for further treatment and observation.
Daniel Gibson has played in 17 games averaging 25.2 minutes per game. Gibson is averaging 7.1 ppg. On 34% shooting from the field. Daniel Gibson is shooting 43% from beyond the arc and 93% from the line. Boobie has really stepped up on the defensive end of the floor this year. Coach Byron Scott also called Gibson one of the best perimeter defenders in the NBA earlier this season. It is unclear how long Gibson will be out. Gibson and guard Anthony Parker are out tonight. Rookie guard Mychel Thompson may get the start with Irving against Boston.
The Cavaliers take on Boston tonight in Cleveland at Quicken Loans Arena. This is a rematch from Sunday night where Kyrie Irving hit a layup with 2.6 seconds to play. The layup propelled Cleveland to a 88-87 victory over the Celtics in Boston. Tonight's game marks the second game back for Ray Allen. Allen missed three games for the Celtics with a sore ankle. Rajon Rondo has been out for Boston and his return is unclear. With Rondo out Paul Pierce has had his best week of the season. Averaging 24.6 ppg. And 8 assists per game. Tip off tonight is at 7pm.
