It wasn't pretty, but a win is a win and the NY Giants picked up their first of the season with a 28-16 victory over the St. Louis Rams on ESPN's Monday Night Football. With the wound of last season's week 15 game fresh in their mind, the Giants head to Philadelphia next week to take on Michael Vick and the 1-1 Eagles.
The Giants were able to hold St. Louis down in the red zone for the majority of the game, holding Sam Bradford to 1 touchdown pass while Josh Brown's leg was working overtime, notching three field goals. This game was more about errors on the St. Louis end that the Giants capitalized on, including a Michael Boley 65-yard fumble return for a touchdown that put the score at 14-6 early in the second quarter and set the tone for what would be a sloppy game by both teams.
Notes and Stats
- Manning went 18/29 for 200 yards with 2 touchdowns and 1 interception.
- CB Aaron Ross was benched early in the second half by Tom Coughlin and replaced with Michael Coe. Ross was thought to be an important piece after the Terrell Thomas injury in the preseason.
- The Double Dragon rushing duo, Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs, combined for 31 carries and 109 yards.
- Bradshaw faired almost as well yardage wise on the receiving end, with 5 receptions for 45 yards.
- WR Mario Manningham had 3 receptions for 56 yards before going down with a concussion and missing the second half.
- Justin Tuck saw his first action of the season and had one solo sack while teaming up with Jason Pierre-Paul for another.
- The Giants head to Philadelphia for a 1pm game on Sunday, which will be broadcast on FOX.
