Giants shut out Ports, 2-0

Eric Stolp pitched eight shutout innings and Jason Stoffel earned his tenth save as the San Jose Giants shutout the Stockton Ports, 2-0 Thursday night at Banner Island Ballpark.

Stolp (4-3) allowed only six base runners, and only one got as far as third base.  He gave up four hits, one walk and hit a batter while striking out one.  His eight-inning stint was a season-high.  Stoffel pitched a perfect ninth inning as the Giants improved to 30-18 and kept their lead at four games in the division.

San Jose scored single runs in the second and fourth innings off Murphy Smith.(3-5) on RBI singles by Charlie Culberson, who was three-for-three, and Jose Flores, who extended his hitting streak to 14 games.

Game three of the series tomorrow night is expected to feature a matchup between Eric Surkamp (2-1) of the Giants and Kenny Smalley (2-4) oif the Ports.  First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
