Most football coaches keep everything close to the vest; the more secrets that can be kept from an opponent, the better. So the New York Giants' brass must be cringing at the site of what Big Blue safety Antrel Rolle posted on Twitter and Instagram on Friday night.
"This is going to be a long night for @shutdowncb1... I need him to know his assignments if he is going to play on Sunday. #bigbra #lilbra #perfectioniskey," Rolle posted through Twitter and Instagram.
The Twitter handle "@shutdowncb1" belongs to rookie cornerback Charles James.
The post included a video showing Rolle working with James on coverage schemes.
Veteran cornerbacks Corey Webster and Aaron Ross have already been placed on injured reserve. Newly installed starter Trumaine McBride appeared to aggravate an ongoing groin injury last week against the Detroit Lions and was listed as questionable for this Sunday's game against the Washington Redskins.
Reserve cornerback Jayron Hosley missed practice with an undisclosed illness this week and has been injured often in his short career.
Unless the G-men have gotten very Machiavellian, it would appear that rookie Charles James is in line to start against the Washington Redskins on Sunday. James was originally signed on May 10 as an undrafted free agent from Charleston Southern and spent the entire training camp with the Giants before getting cut.
James was then signed to New York's practice squad before the regular season and the promoted from the practice squad before the team played the Philadelphia Eagles on October 6. Mostly James has been limited to playing on special teams for Big Blue, where he has made several notable plays.
But Antrel Rolle may have let the cat out of the bag on Twitter and Instagram, so hopefully the Washington Redskins have not been monitoring social media this week.
