Giants lose third straight to High Desert, 8-4

May 9, 2010

High Desert hitters knocked around San Jose pitching for 14 hits in winning their third straight against the Giants, 8-4 Sunday at Municipal Stadium.

Home runs by Denny Almonte and Jake Shaffer led the charge as the Mavericks improved their road record to 12-5 and their overall mark to 17-12.  San Jose, which has lost six of its past eight and five in a row at home, falls to 14-14.

Giants' starter Eric Stolp (1-3) was rocked for nine hits and five earned runs in four innings.  The Mavericks scored two runs in each of the second, fourth and fifth innings and never trailed in the game.  Leadoff hitter Kyle Seager led the charge with a three-for-four day.

San Jose had plenty of chances as the Giants had a dozen hits, including a combined ten safeties by the top five batters in the order.  But they left eight runners in base.  Juan Perez was three-for-five while Brandon Belt was two-for-four with two RBI's and raised his average to .407.

Mavericks' starter Bobby LaFromboise gave up three earned runs on eight hits in four innings.  Reliever Ryan Moorer (1-1) pitched a scoreless inning and 2/3 to pick up the victory.

The final game of fhe four-game series is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. on Monday.  Scheduled starters are Eric Surkamp (1-1) for the Giants and Jake Wild (3-0) for the Mavericks.
