Giant wave kills US tourist in Mexico: Wave pulls 2 off beach and out to sea

A 65-year-old woman died after she was hit by a giant wave that pulled her and a man right off the beach and out to sea. The 70-year-old man is in critical condition after being rescued by Navy personal, according to MSN on Thursday, March 7, 2013.

The man and the woman were walking along the beach in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, when a giant wave crashed on the shore and carried the two out to sea. The navy pulled both the man and the woman out of the ocean, but the woman was dead. The man survived this bizarre ordeal, but he is in critical condition in the hospital today.

The names of the woman, who had a Wisconsin license, and the man, whose license said he was from Nebraska, were not released. It is not know if their next of kin have been notified yet.

One minute a pair of U.S. tourists were strolling along the beautiful beach near the famous stone arch in Cabo San Lucas and without warning the wave swept them into the water and the undertow took them a good distance out to sea. The force of this wave took them far enough off shore that the Navy needed to rescue them.
