Saturday's entry on Giant George's Facebook page read:
"Greetings from the Rainbow Bridge...
Just a friendly reminder that November 17 is Giant George Service Day. A chance for you to give of your time and/or money for your favorite animal cause or charity. You will be honoring me on what would be my 8th birthday by helping animals in your community."
Sadly, George of Tucson, Ariz. died on Oct. 17, 2013; one month shy of his eighth birthday, but his spirit lives on with hopes his memory will save many homeless, abandoned, and needy animals through donations and efforts in honor of giant George's birthday.
Verified to have been the World's Biggest Dog by Guinness World Records on Feb. 10, 2010, George enjoyed international fame appearing on television shows and meeting such celebrities as Oprah Winfrey including guest appearances with Regis and Kelly and Good Morning America.
Ironically, George's favorite humans, Dave and Lynne Nasser found George as a puppy from a breeder; George was the runt of the litter.
So how big was George? From paw to neck, George stood 43 inches high and weighed 245 pounds; equivalent to 26 Shih Tzus. He lived in Tucson with his family, and slept in a queen sized bed of his own. George ate approximately 110 pounds of food a month; frequently dining on chicken, rice, and other goodies appealing to Great Danes of discriminating taste.
On Giant George's Facebook, more than 208,000 "likes" have smiled upon such a beautiful face and canine soul.
His humans, Dave and Lynne Nasser even wrote a book about living with the world's largest dog. Click here if you would like more information about purchasing a copy.
Good night sweet George. Say hi to Aspen, the saucy little Shih Tzu at the Rainbow Bridge for me please.
