Gia Coppola attended the "Gia By Gia Coppola" Wine Launch party at the Bowery Hotel in New York City.
Who was there: Fault in Our Stars & Palo Alto actor Natt Wolf, Derek Blasberg, DJ Atlanta de Cadenet Taylor, SNL Lonely Island alum and Girls actor Jorma Taccone, Robert Coppola Schwartzman and Annabelle Dexter Jones.
The filmmaker also hosted an event in July at the Sunset Tower Hotel in West Hollywood. Gia's famous grandfather, Francis Ford Coppola joined his granddaughter at the LA launch.
The director and mixologist wore a Proenza Schouler outfit to both events with a cropped top and skirt.
Gia Coppola attended the 2014 CFDA awards with Proenza Schouler designers Jack McCoullough and Lazaro Hernandez. She is a fashionista like her aunt Sophia Coppola who is the muse of Marc Jacobs and a former fashion model.
We weren't surprised when Gia Coppola wore outfits from the popular fashion line.
Gia Coppola made her first film this year with her directorial debut Palo Alto which hit theaters this spring. Her latest venture involves her launching an affordable wine for a younger consumer from the family business. The Gia by Gia Coppola wine collection consists of three wines which are all priced under $20 dollars.
A third generation filmmaker, photographer, artist, impromptu (and impressive) mixologist — Gia Coppola is all of these things and much more. Introduced to the wine industry by her grandfather, Francis Ford Coppola, Gia has been involved with the family winery for over a decade. In 2012, she was inspired to create her own line of wines, Gia by Gia Coppola. With the release of her brand, Gia hopes to share her love for light, unpretentious wines.
Guests were served bites and specialty cocktails made with Gia Frizzante Chardonnay.
The cocktail recipes:
The Bitter Spark
Gia Frizzante Chardonnay, Sugar, Angostura
Death in the Afternoon
Absinthe, Gia Frizzante Chardonnay
Fact: Gia Coppola confirmed that she saw the classic movie "The Godfather" for the first time with actor/writer/director James Franco. Her grandfather did not see the movie with her but offered his support with her directorial debut.
Gia was nice enough to pose for a quick selfie at the launch party while mingling with guests. We enjoyed the taste of all of the wines and recommend that you try the affordable spirits.
Gia Frizzante Chardonnay
Pear, pineapple and citrus notes
Light and elegant sparkling wine
Gia Frizzante is refreshingly fruity with bright effervescence and fragrant notes of passion fruit, pears, honey, and acacia flowers. It’s light and elegant on the palate and should be enjoyed well chilled at 45 degrees. More than anything, this wine exudes a distinct freshness and buoyancy that pairs beautifully with desserts such as patisseries, exotic fruits, Sabayon, and apple or pear tarts. It is also delicious on its own as an aperitif and works equally well with dishes like Paella and spicy Asian cuisine.
Gia Pinot Grigio
Just like the woman they were inspired by, the wines of Gia Coppola are easy going and fun to drink. Grown in California’s cool climate vineyards, where morning fog helps the grapes retain an ideal level of crisp, natural acidity, our Pinot Grigio reaped the benefits of ideal weather conditions. 2013 experienced some of the lowest rainfall on record. This lack of precipitation produced small berries with great flavor concentration. Steady temperatures during the summer allowed the fruit to ripen slowly, making it intensely aromatic and perfectly balanced with a vivacious personality. Gia Pinot Grigio exhibits ripe, fresh fruit flavors presented in their natural state through stainless steel fermentation and no contact with oak.
With an alluring perfume of bergamot orange, honeysuckle and plumeria flowers, Gia Pinot Grigio presents vibrant flavors of pineapple, white peaches and the minerality of wet stones. It delights the palate with bright acidity, a touch of sweetness and a lingering finish of fresh fruit. This perky wine has a light body, with a hint of spritz, making it delightfully refreshing and perfect for pairing with seafood, shellfish, spring salads and light appetizers.
Gia Pinot Noir
The fruit is grown in the cooler climate vineyards of California, where Pinot Noir thrives. The excellent weather of 2012 bestowed on us a harvest of outstanding fruit, making the debut release of this wine very special. Having ripened slowly, the fruit is incredibly aromatic and fresh. We wanted this wine to be “light on its feet” so we finished it in stainless steel rather than oak barrels. Despite having no wood contact, the wine is endowed with beautiful spice aromas that come naturally from the varietal.
Gia Pinot Noir offers a silky texture, pretty spice notes and impressions of fresh picked strawberries and raspberries with pomegranate and a hint of peach. There is a refreshing acidity and harmonious balance to this wine, with a light, juicy quality and gentle sweetness. Lean and smooth, the wine shows good length and an aromatic finish that hints ever so surprisingly at coconut. Perfect for pairing with hors d’oeuvres, roasted chicken, and linguine with pesto sauce.
