The Greenville Hospital System Swamp Rabbit Tram Trail runs between Travelers Rest and Greenville, SC. Advocates of the trail claim that it is helping to revitalize communities, grow tourism and make people healthier. Eventually, the proposed network of new trails could extend as a statewide mountain to sea passage.
Stretching 13.55 miles, the Swamp Rabbit is a hiking and biking trail which connects the North campus of the Greenville Hospital to Greenville Tech in the city of Greenville. The trail has beautiful expanses along the Reedy River and through the campus of Furman University. Amenities include lighting, picnic areas, benches, water fountains, restrooms, signage, and bicycle racks.
Future plans include the addition of a tram that will start at Sunrift Adventures in Travelers Rest and will continue with stops at Furman University and downtown Greenville. The tram is scheduled to run during special events at both locations. Currently, the trail is approximately 12 feet wide allowing for ease of use by bicyclists and runners/walkers alike. The multi-use path is situated on an old railroad line that is no longer in use.
All greenways are closed to motorized vehicles. Dogs are allowed, but must be kept on a leash 6 feet or less. Mile markers are installed along the trail at 1/2 mile increments. Although never closed to the public, anyone planning a special event on the trail must fill out an event permit.
Note to trail travelers: The section of the Swamp Rabbit Trail at Bramlett Ave (approximately ½ mile above the city limits of Greenville) is temporarily closed until issues brought up by CSX regarding the rail crossing are resolved. Barricades have been placed on the trail to clearly identify this area. Obey the signs to avoid being cited for trespassing. Unfortunately, because of this temporary closing the trail is not connected from Greenville to Travelers Rest for the time being. Please visit the official website here for updated information regarding the closure.

That's too bad about CSX blocking off part of the trail. I wonder if anyone talked to them about the crossing back in the planning stages? If not, they really dropped the ball.
