Gettysburg ghosts and other ghouls are "dying" to invite you to come celebrate with them at the Annual Olde Gettysburg Parade, this Tuesday. A community tradition dating back to almost five decades, this year's event will kick off at 7 p.m. and will feature participants from various schools and local organizations from the Greater Gettysburg areas.
Participants to this year's event will comprise of school bands from Gettysburg and Littlestown High School, the Hanover Lancers Alumni Drum and Bugle Corps, the Gettysburg College Band, the Gettysburg Young Marines and the ROTC from Gettysburg High School, the Gettysburg Community Theatre and several others. The streets will be full of floats and assembled bodies of many sorts, and cash prizes will even be awarded to parade participants.
The 2013 Olde Gettysburg Parade will be hosted by the Elm Street Program "Olde Getty Place." Scott Donato and Kim Alexander of the 107.7 Morning Show will serve as emcees.
The Halloween Parade will assemble in front of Gettysburg Middle School, located on Lefever Street and head off north towards Baltimore Street and on through Lincoln Square. From there, the ensemble will head out to York Street and then right on to Liberty Street. The parade will then take to Middle Street and disband at the Middle School.
As an annual event sought after by the community, the parade has received contributions this year from such community partners as the Gettysburg Eagles Aerie No. 1562, the Blue Parrot Bistro, Battlefield Harley Davidson, Herff Jones, the Farnsworth House, Lois Edwards, Adams County National Bank, Codori Memorials, Hockley and O’Donnell,and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Dietz.
If in the event of inclement weather, the parade will follow the slated schedule on the alternate date of Oct. 29.
