The Miami Beach Botanical Garden is an peaceful refuge by day but beware this Halloween season because it will be haunted by ghosts.
That's the plan for the First Annual "Ghosts in the Garden" and Halloween Ball, which will be held Saturday, Oct. 26 at 8 p.m.
For the event, the garden will take on scary air, filled with animated ghouls cavorting to the music of DJ Le Spam and the Spam Allstars, a favorite area band known for their unique blend of improvised electronic and turntable jamming mashes with a funky, Latin, hip-hop vibe. (We're betting you can join in on the cavorting).
There will also be a haunted trail with several spooks that are dying to meet you. The tongue-in-cheek (pun intended) theme is "Breaking Bath Salts, and the face-eating zombies are said to do anything for a taste of flesh. (If you need this reference explained, you're not from Miami).
A costume party offers a top prize of a weekend stay at the top Miami Beach hotel, the Clevelander.
Emceeing the activities will be Crypt Keeper Octavio Campos, a well-known local actor, dancer and performance artists who is also no stranger to hosting, having wickedly emceed Chat Noir, a legendary performance show on South Beach a few years back.
VIP tickets, which are $100, include entrance to the "RIP Lounge," open bar, "finger food" and goodie bags. The general admission price of $30 includes access to a cash bar and such treats as a the Goblin and Gould Taco Bar, Grilled San Witches and Grilled-to-Death Turkey Sliders.
