Ghosts, Spirits, and Entities…Oh My! – PAPS, Part II

Have you ever wondered what the difference between ghosts, spirits, and poltergeists are?  There is a very distinct difference between these groupings as well as some others like manipulated spirits and entities. Meeting with Rod, the founder of PAPS, was an eye opening experience that provided a wealth of information on the paranormal.

Ghosts- Ghosts are “already there”, according to Rod. Ghosts are already manifested spirits who are able to be seen by the human eye clearly. Ghosts often replay a scene in the time in which they were alive. For example, a ghost may walk down the same hallway they walked down every day when they were alive.

Spirits – Spirits are more difficult to define however, the most basic definition that was provided was that a spirit is “an essence of a person” and these are beings who do not want to move on for whatever reason. Rod advised that a spirit generally has the same personality in death as it did in life. So be warned…if you have a family member that wasn’t the most fun to be around in life, it won’t change after death. Rod believes that spirits have a level of consciousness and may be aware of when someone wants to drive them away from a particular location. Some spirits are less than friendly when this happens.

Poltergeists – These are a complicated sort. According to Rod, poltergeists are created by an individual’s own psyche in their human life. For example, if someone has had something severely traumatic happen in their life, they may create a form of protection (often in animal form, but not always) that becomes so real and so strong that the energy is actually physically created. More will be explained on this in examples given in a future article.

Entities – An entity is one that is either demonic or angelic. They are not of this world and are extremely powerful.

Manipulated Spirits – A manipulated spirit, as explained by Rod, is a grounded spirit that has refused to move on for a long period of time. When this happens, the spirit risks being taken over by an entity. This often happens with cases of demonic possession of a home. The manipulated spirit has essentially been “possessed” by the entity and is acting out according to the entity’s requirements, not their own. Again, more will be explained later.

Why do the paranormal choose some individuals and not others?

Rod explained that some individuals are referred to as “light houses” in that they are a doorway to this other world and they draw in the spirits by opening doors for them to get through. We are all born with a “hedgerow” around us when we are born that provides protection from the paranormal. When we do activities to break down the hedgerow, that is when the doors open for the paranormal to squeeze in.

How do we open the doors?

According to Rod, the doors can be opened by things like extreme fear, depression, murder, and overindulgence in drugs and alcohol and things that are occult in nature like Ouija Boards, mediums, and psychics. There is a belief, as outlined by Rod, within the Catholic Church that once five or six of these doors are opened, the individual is prone to possession because the protection around them is virtually nonexistent.

To get rid of spirits or negative energy or any paranormal being, the doors must be closed, or they will continue to return to the “lighthouse” individual.

**In Part III, the process for how PAPS rids a home or individual of paranormal beings will be discussed.**
