The stately Doris Harper-White Playhouse in Flagstaff, Arizona was once a private residence, a boarding house, The Elks Club and the Flagstaff Public Library. It later became the home of the Theatrikos Theatre Company during the early 1990’s.
The theatre houses 99 seats and the theatre patrons are never more than five rows from the stage.
Tales of ghostly apparitions, witches, and the madness of Lady MacBeth from Shakespearian plays (such as MacBeth) may not be the only ghosts lingering in the darkness of the playhouse. Theatrikos staff and performers have reported seeing three actual ghosts in the building.
Unexplained events began to happen shortly after the Flagstaff Public Library moved into the building. The librarians felt uneasy about going down into certain areas of the basement—especially after dark. They reported a malicious presence in the spooky underground room. They felt cold chills in various sections of the library and something---or “someone” enjoyed playing pranks with the lights and the building's thermostat.
The Theatrikos Theatre Company troupe has had encounters with the entities as well. Two of them have become revered by the staff and performers, but the third ghost is one they wish would go away. Theatre performers believe that seeing a ghost is a good omen that represents the play will do well at the box office.
When in Flagstaff, reserve your seats for some spell binding entertainment. You will enjoy an evening of profession theatre shows, and experience an intimate setting for both the performers and the audience alike. Some theatre ghosts never seem to leave the spot lights of the stage. There are actors, stagehands, and patrons who could not get enough drama in their lives--so they spend their afterlife in the theatre.
