Ghosts are being blamed for the unprecedented amount of motorcycle crashes that have occurred in a coastal tourist town. Bikers in Ukunda town Kwale County believe the accidents, which have no other apparent cause, are due to the ghosts of dead people along the side of the road, according to the Standard Media on Sept. 30.
Bodaboda is the name of the motorcycle, often used as a taxis, that are very popular along the scenic ocean roads. They taxi tourists all over town. The accidents are on the rise in Ukunda town where there are three to four Bodaboda accidents reported daily lately.
At a recent town meeting the thoughts of ghosts causing these accident were brought up by the many bodaboda owners who attended. They believe the ghosts come from the carnage of people dying on the roads. The officials in the town dismissed their thoughts and basically told the public if they are worried about ghosts, go to church and get cleansed.
The county commissioner told the bikers to “repent” if they really believe it is ghosts that are causing these accidents. The folks in Ukunda town are serious, they see no other explanation for the many accidents that occur in a week’s time on the roads. They think this is the work of ghosts.
