Starting today Thursday, October 31, 2013 and continuing through Sunday, November 3, L.A. Theatre Works’ Radio Theatre Series celebrates Halloween with “Blithe Spirit,” written by Noël Coward, directed by Michael Hackett and starring Rosalind Ayres, Shirley Knight, Christopher Neame and Ian Ogilvy.
The broadcast can be heard locally in Southern California on Thursday, Oct. 31 from 7-9 pm on KPFK 90.7 FM in Los Angeles (98.7 FM in Santa Barbara, 99.5 FM in Ridgecrest/China Lake and 93.7 FM in Rancho Bernardo/North San Diego) and can also be streamed on demand at www.latw.org.
This enchanting Coward comedy is set in the country home of Charles Condomine, a re-married widower. An evening party among friends is transformed when a séance conjures the ghost of Elvira, Charles’ first wife, who delights in wreaking havoc among the living. Classic Coward, this play has been delighting audiences since he first penned it. Listening to it on the radio (or at via the internet) offers a wonderful way to stretch the Halloween hauntings.
The broadcast includes a piece on ghostly recorded voices (“Electronic Voice Phenomena”) with British producer Mike Harding.
L.A. Theatre Works' radio theater series can also be heard on the following stations (check local listings for broadcast times): 91.5 WBEZ, Chicago; 94.9 KUOW, Seattle; 91.1 KRCB, North Bay (San Francisco); and in over 75 markets nationwide.
