‘Ghostland Tennessee’ captures spirit in devil's toy box

The premiere of “Ghostland Tennessee”, which aired February 24 on Animal Planet, introduced viewers to ghost hunting with a twist. The Tennessee Wraith Chasers, a paranormal investigation team who gained popularity from their participation in the Paranormal Challenge, note on their site that they have something many paranormal investigators lack: personality. A claim they quickly substantiated.

Not only, do the Tennessee Wraith Chasers approach paranormal investigating with a sense of humor, they claim to be Christians, too and take the time to pray before they begin the hunt.

These non-traditional ghost hunters built a “Devil’s Toy Box” by making a cube from 6 mirrors (all facing inward) and enclosing it in a box. According to the team, light reflecting inside the box creates energy that attracts spirits, but once the spirits enter the box to explore, they can’t find their way out – thereby trapping them inside the box.

The team then used the box to attract and trap the entity haunting the Deleusomme home and even claimed to hear tapping and scratching coming from inside the box. Interestingly, other sources, such as Paranormal News and Above Top Secret claim the Devil’s Toy Box is used to open portals and draw spirits from other realms and may have ties to the Wiccan religion.

Aside from the obvious contradiction between Christian and Pagan values portrayed in the show, there was also a lack of evidence provided. Even though the viewer was told that tapping and scratching came from inside the box, no attempt was made to document the sounds.

And then, of course, taking the Devil’s Toy Box to a secluded area to blow it up did seem a little out of place. According to the team, this explosion blew the spirit apart.

For entertainment value, the Tennessee Wraith Chasers certainly came through in “Ghostland Tennessee”. As serious ghost hunters they may have missed the mark, but you don’t have to take my word for it. Follow them on Facebook to find out when the next show airs.
