Ghost hunting with the Great American Phenomena Hunt with Jeff Grunow and Alex Hearn is an experience one does not forget, and Bisbee is the place to go. Bisbee is only 20 miles from the border of Mexico and is 82 miles southeast of Tucson. This revived mining town produces copper, gold, and silver. The town got its name from DeWitt Bisbee who was one of the financial backers of the Copper Queen Mine.
Old Bisbee was known for its taverns, bars, brothels and cafes. Perhaps, the best known area was “the Gulch”. This area is built on the mountain side and has a gulch running down the middle of the area which is also a main street. Several washes rush down the hills into tunnels under the hotels and buildings to drain into the street. During heavy rains, this area turns into a raging torrent.
Old, Bisbee is highly populated with places which are claimed to be haunted. The Copper Queen Hotel has several specters which include a lady entertainer, a child, and moving items, and whispers. The Grand Hotel lays claim to two resident ghosts, one male and one female. Old Cemetery Park is believed by many to be built upon many graves which were not relocated to the new grave site. The Oliver House has an old grandma ghost, and possibly 28 other ghosts including those who were murdered in the late 1800s. Nathan Anderson was shot between the eyes reportedly by a jealous husband who then proceeded down the stairs to kill everyone in the parlor.
Then there is the Bisbee Inn, Hotel La More. This hotel has a lady in white, a cat, a cowboy miner and various other playful specters who unmake beds, sit in or lay in the beds with the hotel guests, create cold spots, flickering lights and much more.
The streets of Bisbee also are full of ghosts. If you ever get a chance to go ghost hunting with Jeff and Alex, you are in for a real treat. Go if you dare!
