Before braving the darkness and going on your own ghost adventure it is very important that you know the differences between different types of haunts and the different entities you may encounter during a paranormal investigation. I have been asked many times about the difference between haunts and how to determine between them all. In this Ghost Hunting 101 article we will find the answers to the question: “What is an intelligent haunt?”
An intelligent haunt is one that we as ghost hunters are able to interact with. They are 100 percent aware of their surroundings and what is happening. Intelligent haunts make efforts to communicate with the living through talking, moving objects and knocking (or other types of noises). These types of haunts look for ways to get the living to notice them.
Though you can interact with intelligent spirits anytime during day or night, interactions with these haunts are more common between the hours of 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. It is theorized that the entities are stronger during the evening hours to manifest themselves and are more noticeable when light levels are lower.
Intelligent haunts are similar to the living. They all have their own personalities, similar to the one they had when alive. Some can be benevolent and mischievous, while others can be tame and friendly. Some will stay in a particular area, home or other building. Reasons spirits will remain in a single location can be because they have an emotional attachment to the area or they are receiving the attention they are searching for.
Be prepared to communicate with an intelligent haunt. Ask as many questions as you can. Be respectful and give them the opportunity to communicate with you. Many times they just want to be listened to. So be there, listen and pay attention.
