In the season premiere of “Ghost Hunters”, which aired on October 9, the team traveled to the Allen Mansion in Monticello, Arkansas to investigate claims of paranormal activity. According to the owners, Mark and Rebecca Spencer, the family has heard noises and seen black shadows, apparitions and furniture moving on its own, but their most unusual claim is the presence of doppelgangers in the home.
Doppelganger, sometimes referred to as body doubles, have been reported throughout history and are typically viewed as harbingers of death. According to legend, dopplegangers look and act like a real person, and appear to the victim shortly before death. In some instances, like the infamous doppleganger of Emile Sagee, doppelgangers appear to confirm the existence of bilocation.
Mark and Rebecca Spence claim body doubles of the family members have been seen in the home on several occasions. On one occasion, several members observed a doppelganger of youngest son spinning around in circles and playing in the hallway, while he was asleep on the couch. In another incidence, Rebecca says she saw herself standing in the kitchen.
Although the “Ghost Hunters” team did not uncover doppelganger activity it the home, they did encounter the strong odor of sulfur, commonly referred to as the smell of rotten eggs, in the attic of the home. Jason Hawes, lead paranormal investigator, explained that the smell of sulfur is often associated with doppelganger activity.
Each investigative team experienced seeing dark masses or shadows throughout the house. At one point, Dave Tango observed a dark shadow passing across the inside of the front door. While initially the team concluded that a car passing by the home at the same time was the cause of the mysterious shadow, further investigation revealed the dark shape visible from one of their cameras filming the outside of the house.
The team also recorded a short vocal EVP, which could not be identified, and the sound of a typewriter. Doors were observed to open and close on their own, and at one point the sound of the bathroom door was accompanied by the bathroom light turning off and on. Various team members heard several noises they could not explain. All teams observed dark shadows or masses throughout the home.
The “Ghost Hunters” team concluded that whatever haunts the home of Mark and Rebecca Spencer is benign and does not pose a risk to the family. The team offered no explanation for the alleged doppelganger activity in the home.
