A Florida man that turned himself into police earlier this month has been charged with first degree murder for killing his wife. Before turning himself into authorities, he allegedly posted a confession and an image of his wife's dead body on Facebook. An arraignment was scheduled for August 29 the Miami Herald reported yesterday.
Derek Medina, a 31-year-old actor and author from Miami admitted to murdering his 26-year-old wife Jennifer Alfonso and posted a photo of her lifeless and bloody body on his Facebook page. The graphic image shows Alfonso lying slumped over on the kitchen floor.
According to Medina, his wife pulled a knife from one of the kitchen drawers and threatened him with it. While armed with a hand gun, Medina disarmed the knife from his wife and during the struggle she allegedly kicked and punched him. He claimed he shot her several times in self-defense. After the murder, Medina left his 10-year-old daughter alone with her mother's body and drove himself to the police station.
"I'm going to prison or death sentence for killing my wife love you guys miss you guys take care Facebook people you will see me in the news. My wife was punching me and I am not going to stand anymore with the abuse so I did what I did," Medina's Facebook post said.
A brief hearing was held in the Miami-Dade court on Friday. Medina was charged with first degree murder and is scheduled to appear back in court for an arraignment on August 29.
Medina has also appeared on the television show "Burn Notice" and has authored several self-published self-help books. He is also a ghost hunter and has explored various alleged haunted places throughout Florida and Louisiana. Medina also claimed that he once saved his wife from a ghost attack.
