What is so fantastic about this price is the airport was just built a few years back for the cost of $1.5 billion or $1.1 billion euros. That’s quite the discount for the selling price of this airport.
The ghost airport is not haunted, although it may look like it is, as this brand new facility is just sitting vacant. Ciudad Real’s Central Airport went bankrupt last year after never pulling in the traffic it needed to keep it afloat.
This is how it became known as a “ghost airport,” which is one of many “ghost airports” in Spain. The airport is about 150 miles south of Madrid and it first opened in 2008.
While it went bankrupt last year, it was finally put on the market today, Monday Dec. 9. The Caja Castilla La Mancha Savings Bank was one of the biggest backers of this project. Offers on the airport are being accepted until Dec. 27.
