MIYAZAKI AT THE MODERN: MASTERPIECES OF ANIMATION

Beginning this weekend and continuing through the month of August, the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth together with The Lone Star Film Society’s ArthouseFW Society present: Miyazaki at the Modern: Masterpieces of Animation. Several of the Ghibli Studio featured films have been the highest grossing anime films produced in Japan. Ghibli Studios is a famous Japanese film and animation studio based in Tokyo. One of the Ghibli Studio founder and director, Hayao Miyazaki is one of the most influential animators in history. In addition to be being a director, he is a manga artist, producer, illustrator and screenwriter. He retired as writer and director of full featured films, in 2013, after writing and directing, The Wind Rises. He has used hand-drawn animation as well as some computer and digital animation technics in his films and manga, but his preferred method is hand-drawn animation. In honor of Hayao Miyazaki you are encourage to dress in your best anime or manga costume to these events.

These films are a must-see for those attending the animation workshops offered during the month of August at the Modern.

The Modern will be hosting several events including traditional Japanese refreshments in the Lobby following some of the film screenings. Refreshments will include Taiyaki and green tea punch and Ramune sodas in addition to other Japanese snacks on certain dates. The Modern Shop will have a selection of Totoro merchandise, manga books and anime costumes available for purchase.

Advance tickets may be purchased at http://lonestarfilmsociety.com/ or by calling the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth at (817) 738-9215. You may also purchase tickets two hour prior to show time. These screenings are sure to be packed due to the huge fan base of Ghibli Studios.

This festival of Japanese films will culminate with a full Japanese Kaiseki Dinner & Sake Pairing. Visit the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth website for a menu of courses to be served at this event.
