Getting your dog ready for Doggie Splash Season

Ready for the water!
Ready for the water!
Steven Hensley

Doggie Splash Season starts the weekend in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and across the country. It's time to get your dog ready for the water.

First of all, make sure that all of your dogs shots are current. Most events have people at the front gate checking for current rabies certificates. There is nothing worse than watching your dog see all the fun from the other side of the gate just because you forgot his shots this year. Get this done ahead of time.

For dogs who may be weak swimmers or if you want to let them float down the lazy river, go to your local pet store and pick up a doggie life preserver. They make them in sizes for all dogs. All of my dogs are experienced swimmers but they still like the flotation devices so they can just float in the water when they get tired.

Get your own swimsuit and a towel. Your dogs are going to want you to swim with them. And bring a backpack to put towels, leashes and other stuff in while you are in the pool. Find a nice dry place to stash your cell phone. Don't ask me how I know this.

There are waterproof cameras out there if you want pictures. Check out the new Go Pro with the waterproof case. I saw several of them at the water park last year attached to collars. It's nice to get a dogs eye view of the activities.

Now that you are ready, here's where to go:
