Author Alicia Winski, born and raised in Los Angeles is a fierce poetic voice, spreading her wings across the west coast. With an impressive following in both L.A. & Seattle, Winski is a poetic & provocative figure both online and on stage.
Winski was recently asked a series of questions, which was meant to be no more than merely an interview, but suddenly a metamorphosis occured and a poem emerged from its captive cocoon.
Impromptu, the following poem was deciphered from her answers after some respective editing. The following words are Alicia's answers, edited chronologically from her answers to the interview questions, [What does beauty mean to you? Where does your strength come from? What are your objectives as a poet? A few other questions as well] however, the questions quickly became far less important than the response.
The always honest and raw emotion of Alicia Winski's work is always front and center, ever distinct and bold, however a rare look into Ms. Winski's true expression and vulnerability is apparent in the following poem.
Getting To The Heart Of The Matter With Author Alicia Winski:
Quite a unique look into the depths of this brave and prolific artist.
Getting To The Heart Of The Matter
Beauty moves me within
shifts my senses
makes me stop and think
Beauty is finding something
strong and special
in the weak and artificial
To show others what I see
through my eyes
to show them what is beautiful
within the dark and ugly
show them who I am
search for a deeper meaning
trite as that sounds
to strip the surface emotions
and get down to the heart of the matter
I dont know.
I just know that I have to go on.
there's something more out there
that goes beyond the reach of hardship
there is something
just within my grasp
and I have to keep reaching for it
or die spiritually and emotionally
I'm not willing to die yet
