A three-day weekend is always a great time to make a trip to the borough of Gettysburg. Whether you're a local or from out of town, come out and check out one of the great goings on taking place this Labor Day week.
Usual events, walks, tours and other activities will be taking place this weekend, as always but with a few additional accompaniments. Adams County Winery will be holding an End of Summer Blowout and Free Concert, onsite, featuring the Skyla Burrell Blues Band. Showtime is from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31. Likewise, you can head on over to Reid's Orchard & Winery between 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. for Music in the Valley! The band Schizophonic, a five piece rock band, will faithfully recreate all the hits and favorites of the classic rock era styling for a one-of-a-kind experience. Though the band will not perform until evening, the winery opens its doors at noon. Sangria is available until 9 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own picnic lunches or purchase food from the N.E.W. A-ville Inn.
Music in the Valley! continues on Sunday as well with Across the Pond, an acoustic Celtic/folk trio. The band will be playing from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. As before, doors open at noon. Sangria is served until 6 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own picnic lunches or purchase food from the N.E.W. A-ville Inn where you will be able to enjoy more live music, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. as Stealing The Clovers with Wally & Friends performs in concert.
South Mountain Outdoors will be holding a Regional Event on Saturday and Sunday. This family-friendly designation, made possible by Gettysburg Wine & Fruit Trail and Strawberry Hill Nature Preserve, will consist of a series of outdoor activities, recreational events and educational opportunities for the whole family to celebrate the resources of the South Mountain landscape. The American Civil War Wax Museum has plenty to show this weekend as well. While you're in town, stop by and check out David Loose's Gettysburg 50th and 75th Anniversary Memorabilia Collection. This special exhibit, running from May through December, allows visitors to the Civil War Wax Museum to see artifacts and collectibles that were part of the 50th and 75th Anniversary Commemorations of the Battle of Gettysburg. The exhibit is free with admission to the Civil War Wax Museum. Additionally, also running from May through December at the Civil War Wax Museum is the Boy Scout Memorabilia Andrew Chernak Collection. This special exhibit features artifacts such as original uniform jackets and patches since the establishment of the organization. Visitors have free access to this exhibit as well when included n admission to the Civil War Wax Museum.
