Now Whole, SOiL has released a new album and embarked on a new tour with newly returned original front man Ryan McCombs. McCombs spent about seven years away from SOiL, but returned in 2011 and completed an entire European tour. Now, with their newest release Whole, the band is hitting the road again showing fans and skeptics that SOiL is back and ready to let the good times roll! Examiner.com recently had a chance to do a little Q & A with bassist Tim King about the reunion with McCombs, the new album, and his advice and adventures in the music business.
Whole comes across as very classic Soil. How was recording Ryan again? Organic or a little surreal?
TK: A little of both. The album came about very organic but it was very surreal to have back in the studio together. It was kind if like "Is this really happening?"
What has been the best thing for you about the new tour and new album?
TK: Tour just started and has been fun so far. The best thing for me so far was charting #141 in the Billboard Top 200.
Is there anything in particular that you like to do when you’re out on the road (hobbies, habits, etc)?
TK: I sleep a ton, clean as I'm a neat freak, and make a lot of business calls and emails.
What can fans expect from Soil on this tour? Any tricks up the sleeve?
TK: We are bringing a better stage show and more production.
How do you feel you feel you guys have evolved as artists since Scars? Musically, do you feel different or like you’ve come full circle?
TK: I feel that we have finally got that groove to where we know who we are and what we do best. It comes pretty easy these days.
Do you remember your first concert? Who was it and how did it affect you?
TK: My first concert I went to was Bon Jovi and Cinderella at the Rise Mint Horizon in Illinois. It made me wanna be a Rock star.
What are three crucial lessons have you learned from the past 10+yrs in the music business?
TK: Never give up. Find like minded band members. Never trust anyone that says they will "make you a star."
If Whole were a movie, what kind would it be and who would you want to play the leading role?
TK: Comedy for sure. I want Johnny Depp to play me!
These guys are back in action and ready to go at it full swing ahead! So, catch SOiL at a date and venue near you as they cross the country spreading the word. All you old school fans can rejoice, because the boys are back and ready to rock!
