Getting the good news out about Price Hill in 2013

In early December 2012, the community action organization Price Hill Will sponsored a meeting of interested Price Hill residents called “Shout from the Hill Top” that focused on progress being made in the neighborhood and good news that somehow is not reported to the community at large. The first session covered safety improvements and positive information about business investment in the neighborhood, and the discussion was so lively that the group decided to hold a second session.

On Wednesday, January 16, the second “Shout from the Hill Top” session is scheduled for 1:30 p.m to 3:30 p.m at the Warsaw Project Gallery, 3116 Warsaw Avenue. At this meeting, people will learn about ways to share the good news going on in Price Hill. “We've got a lot of great people and organizations doing great stuff all over the neighborhood,” explained Matt Strauss, Director of Marketing & Neighborhood Promotion at Price Hill Will. “We do our best to tell people about the good things going on, but the message is much more effective when it comes from the people actually doling that good stuff.”

Strauss and other organizers from Price Hill Will plan to provide information about the tools and resources available to get the word out about positive developments in Price Hill. “The goal of the meeting is to empower people to tell that story,” said Strauss. “We also want to reach the audiences and communities that they're already in touch with to broaden the reach of our communication.”

The session is aimed at Price Hill residents and business owners, and attendees will learn ways to use social media as well as personal contacts to let people know about what is happening around Price Hill. Price Hill Will is also currently conducting an annual survey they will use to determine priorities for the neighborhood in the coming year, based on the input of community members. The survey is available online at the Price Hill Will website; paper copies also have been distributed to community organizations. The surveys have helped Price Hill Will plan projects in the past, but in addition, the group hopes to encourage more people to get involved in community planning and ongoing projects that are of interest.

There are a number of resident-led committees within Price Hill Will at present, and these committees plan to spend some time in 2013 finding ways to get more of their neighbors to participate in some of the good works going on in Price Hill today. Price Hill Will wants to make 2013 a good year for Price Hill, by getting good news out about their neighborhood as well as by encouraging residents and business owners to get more involved in ongoing and new projects in the community, and everyone in the area is invited to help them create a more positive picture of Price Hill this year.
