The technology of our modern world has produced some marvelous devices that can instantly connect people to their family and friends around the world, their favorite shopping sites, their favorite entertainment sites, their favorite news sites, their favorite gossip sites, etc.
Even tough people can be connected to those sites; sometimes they can have a great inner emptiness because they haven’t made the ultimate connection with God, their Creator.
When people aren’t connected with God by having a close and meaningful relationship with Him, their spiritual nature produces a feeling of inner emptiness that will only go away when a person gets connected with God in a meaningful way.
That situation comes from the way that God created the original people. When God created mankind He created them with not only a physical nature, but also with a spiritual nature so that God could communicate with them and have a close relationship with them.
After God created Adam and Eve (as described in the first two chapters of the Biblical book of Genesis), He greatly enjoyed having a special relationship with them as He walked and talked with them in the cool of the day-as is hinted of in Genesis 3:8.
However, God’s adversary, the serpent/Devil, was very jealous of that relationship and found a way to ruin it by deceiving Eve into disobeying God’s command not to eat of the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. After Eve did that she gave it to Adam, who chose to follow Eve’s disobedience rather than follow God’s command as described in Genesis 3:1-6.
That disobedience produced many disastrous results. First, Adam and Eve fell from being in a perfect spiritual state into a sinful state that was separated from God. Second, they had imposed on them the sentence of spiritual death that God had warned them about. Third, they fell from their perfect physical state into a fallen physical condition in which they would eventually die. Fourth, they could only pass the problems of their fallen condition down to their descendants, along with the tendency to rebel against God’s principles for living.
Ever since the time of Adam and Eve most of mankind has chosen to follow their fallen physical condition, the tendency to rebel against God’s principles for living, and demonic deceptions so they could be involved in lifestyles which continuously break God’s laws. Consequently, they get the sentence of spiritual death imposed on them as well as having an inner emptiness in their spiritual nature.
Even though the majority of people have been rebelling against following God’s principles for living, down through the ages there have been a small minority of people who have decided to be connected to God and live according to His principles.
Hebrews chapter 11 contains the descriptions of God’s heroes that followed God’s principles for living and did great things for God in spite of the problems that the ungodly people caused them.
Many books of the New Testament describe the great story of how out of His great love for mankind God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to come to earth, be born as a man, live a perfect life without breaking any of God’s laws, taught people God’s principles of living, and then as the ultimate demonstration of God’s love; Jesus laid down His life so He could die as the perfect Passover sacrifice and take the punishment of death that everyone who broke God’s laws deserved.
Since Jesus completed God’s redemptive plan, every person who accepts God’s invitation to ask God to forgive them for breaking God’s laws and then asks Jesus Christ to become their personal Savior and spiritually apply His sacrificial death on the cross to their lives will be forgiven by God for breaking his laws, have the spiritual death sentence for breaking God’s laws removed, transferred from the Devil’s spiritual kingdom of darkness and into God’s spiritual kingdom of light, be made into God’s newly restored creation, and have their spiritual nature come alive as God sends the power of the Holy Spirit to live inside of them to give them the ability to live according to God’s principles for living found in the Bible.
As Christians daily read the Bible to learn God’s principles and talk to God about their problems, they can develop a close relationship with God and become connected to Him in such a way that will both bring great meaning to their life and help them with the many problems that they will face during the rest of their journey of life.
Now instead of having a feeling of inner emptiness, new Christians can feel God’s love for them and base their self-image of being a loved creation of God since they were created by God in love, redeemed by God’s love, and sustained by God’s love.
The more that new Christians base their self-image on being God’s loved creation and receive God’s love, the more they can share God’s love and messages with those people around them and thus become a beacon of God’s light and love in the midst of our modern world that is filled with many kinds of darkness!
