Just as Ebenezer Scrooge coveted every last shilling in his pocket, many folks feel the same way about their belongings. It comes at a high price as Scrooge finally came to see with the help of the ghosts of Christmas.
Consider your own ghosts of the past, present and future. The past holds the reasons for the actions of today. Take a hard and honest look to figure out why you are so determined to hold on to so much. It certainly may not be easy but the answers are there.
Face the present head on. If the stress level is making life pretty intolerable, then adjustments are in order. Step back and take a little time to evaluate what really matters to you and your family. The rest of it is just fluff.
While it can be emotionally difficult on so many levels, put the fears aside and start unraveling the excesses that surround you. Once the process begins, the weight of the world lifts and your focus and energy can shift to more meaningful pursuits.
If you take care of the present, then the future will take care of itself. The legacy that you wish to leave behind can become a reality. The choice is yours once you realize that possessions do not define a person. People tend to remember actions and words.
Don't be condemned to walk through life in chains as the ghost of Jacob Marley did through eternity. Immaterial things are just more burdensome links in the chain. Follow the lesson that Scrooge learned and make humanity your business.
