Loosing weight is not easy. It is frustrating actually. The pounds always seem to go on so much easier than they come off. For many of us, competition can fuel us to do more. Two local fitness centers – the Lancaster YMCA and Universal Athletic Club – have programs to help get you motivated, competitive and loosing weight!
The Lancaster YMCA invites people to join the Project Pounds Away program. Participants must be 16 years of age or older. Throughout the program participants will learn how to change daily habits to produce positive results. They meet twice a week with a team and a personal fitness coach for training sessions. There are also five nutrition counseling sessions included. The program runs 16 weeks, from 17 February through 7 June. Registration runs through 24 February. The cost is $350 for members and $450 for non members. Payment plans are available. The program is offered at not just the City Center branch, but also the Lampeter-Strasburg and the New Holland branches. Participants are eligible for prizes if they win the most weight. The City Center branch is located at 265 Harrisburg Avenue.
Loose weight at the Universal Athletic Club (UAC) for free. The “I lost it at the Club” program is free to members. It runs through 2 March and members can join in at any time. Prizes will be awarded those who loose the most over the course of the program. Members can join in at any time throughout the program.
UAC has two other programs going on at the moment as well. The first is “Winner Takes All.” Each participant weighed in starting 9 January and will weigh out on or before 20 February. The participant who looses the highest percentage of body weight will win $1500 cash. There was a fee to join this program and it was open to members and non members. The second program is called “Thinning Together.” Form a team, get on line coaching, and participate in group workouts. Monetary prizes will be awarded to both the winning team and winning individual. The cost to join this program is $99 for members and $149 for the general public. UAC is located at 2323 Oregon Pike.
