I'm not too big into popular radio music, but when it comes to streaming services such as Pandora or Spotify, it helps broaden my musical interest and knowledge of undiscovered artists and bands. Elizabeth Rose self-titled EP was discovered on Spotify one day and I thank their algorithm for matching her with me. The 5 song EP touches on sounds of electronic dreamy pop mixed with an almost a thin layer of R&B. Originally from Sydney, Australia, Elizabeth Rose is packing up her life and bringing it along with her music on a mini tour. First stop is tonight April 28th, 2014 at Bardot located in Los Angeles for a weekly event known as It's A School Night. Read my interview with Elizabeth Rose and learn more about her career so far in the music industry, what she is listening to right now, her short and long term goal, plus much more.
Where do you call home?
Who was your idol when you were growing up?
It changed every few years...but Christina Aguilera and Destinys Child were my top two.
What was it that made you start making music?
My older brother Anthony is a DJ/producer called HooknSling and when he was growing up I would watch him create his music when he was still living at home - I was so interested in music production at such a young age, I knew that was what I wanted to do from seeing Anthony do it.
Your self-titled EP takes me to an electronic dreamworld. Who, if any helped you create that project?
Cam Parkin (aka Shazam) from Perth - an incredible producer, we co-produced the EP together. Also had the amazing producer/songwriter Styalz Fuego give us a hand too! Styalz is so talented - with the 3 of us in the studio together, the songs came out really quickly.
If you could work with any living artist or musician at this point in time, who would it be and why?
I would work with Karin & Olof from The Knife - they are so mysterious and obscure in their writing/production...I can imagine it would be quite the experience!
Your definitely buzzing internationally and your presence is now making its way to the states. In your opinion, what specifically was it that jump started your career?
Hmm I'm not so sure, there have been little milestones along the way over the past 3 years that have gradually pushed me further forward into the light...I really feel that this latest EP is the thing that is finally pushing me out there.
You're out in the world playing your music for fans and promoting it to newfound fans. What excites you most about being on tour?
I think it's the fact that new people rock up to the shows each time - I love the idea of making a good first impression, it pushes me each show to play and perform my best.
A little birdy told me that you will be going on an international tour soon enough. What can you tell me about that?
Not much yet! Dates are still coming together....but I can say that I am confirmed to play at Canadian Music Week Toronto in May...!
Are you working with any special guests for your debut album or will you be featured on any upcoming collaboration records?
Haven't got guest vocalists sorted for the album, but I have a lot of people I want to approach for it...I just did a track with The Aston Shuffle on their new album 'Photographs' that came out. The track is called Back & Forth!
According to you Miss Rose, what are your top 3 albums you recommend I listen to?
Kona Triangle - Seep a New Sapling into Existence
Ryuichi Sakamoto & Alva Noto – Summvs
Cocteau Twins - Heaven or Las Vegas
What is one short term goal and what is one long term goal of yours?
Short - get my drivers license
Long - move overseas!
