Beginning this Friday, Sept. 5, a special, remastered cut of “Forrest Gump” will appear in IMAX theaters nationwide, for exactly one week. The film, written by Eric Roth, directed by Robert Zemeckis and starring Tom Hanks, is making its comeback as part of Gump’s 20th anniversary celebration. Fans of the film can rejoice as they will not only be able to see Forrest run on larger screens than ever before, they will also get a chance to take home a commemorate poster.
According to the IMAX website, fans who purchase tickets and attend a showing of the IMAX one-week exclusive release will receive a limited-edition "Forrest Gump" collector’s print (image: left). No details were provided as to who was behind the design of the poster print and it is a “while supplies last” situation, folks, so there are no guarantees that every attendee will get one. In other words, first come, first serve.
To help promote the upcoming screenings of “Forrest Gump,” IMAX has also released a short video featurette (seen above) to get fans more excited. In the video, Zemeckis touts the IMAX experience and explains how seeing Gump on a giant, all-encompassing screen will bring viewers a new and unique experience. “I’ve been a lifelong fan of the IMAX experience,” Zemeckis says in the featurette. “Whenever you’re in an immersive situation where the image of the movie is taking up your complete peripheral vision, you’re immersed in the movie. And to be immersed in the movie, I think that every scene becomes special and spectacular.”
In an effort to encourage attendance to its theaters, AMC is offering a buy one, get one ticket promotion to see the film called, “Take Your ‘Jenny’ and Buy One Ticket, Get One FREE.” See AMC's official site for showtimes and availability in your area.
