The Charlotte Harbor Chili Challenge and Beer Fest will be held at Laishley Park, 100 Nesbit St., Punta Gorda, Florida on Saturday, January 26, 2013. The gates open at 11:00 a.m. Chili sampling begins at noon. Admission is $3.00 per person. Kids under the age of 12 are free. Tickets are required for chili, beer, food, and the kids play area.
There will be 25 chili teams competing in three different award categories. Teams are be made up of friends, family, businesses, clubs, or just about anyone. Teams will decorate their booths in a “Chili in the Tropics” theme for a chance to win the Showmanship award of $500. The second award is given by the judges. The judges will taste the chili samples and give them a score. The Chili Challenge winners will get $500 and a trophy and prizes will be awarded up to 5th place. The third award is $500 for People’s Choice of the best chili. Each attendee gets a voting coupon when they enter the main gate and they can vote at the individual booths.
Some say you can’t have chili without beer. Well, there will be a beer tasting tent that will feature over 15 different craft beers from micro-breweries across the country. Specialty beers will be available by samples or by the bottle.
To make your day even more enjoyable, there will be live music all day long at the main stage and there will be a Kid’s Fun Zone to keep the young ones occupied. Also take a stroll through the park, watch the boats in the Harbor, and visit the other merchandise and food vendors.
