Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. - Psalm 51:10
Praise the Lord Detroit saints, for we are in the world, but not of the world. Life in this world can drag us down and run us into the ground. Fortunately, God placed a life-giving Spirit within us. That Spirit guides us, refreshes us, and renews us. This renewal has no limits. We can renew once a week or ten times per day, if need be. Our adversary, the devil, roars about like a lion, seeking who he may devour. (1 Peter 5:8) But the Lord Jesus overcame that adversary when He rose from the dead. Fifty days later the apostles received that life-giving Spirit, and so has every generation since then. 2 Corinthians 4:16 says, Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. That inward renewal comes through the Holy Spirit, through intimate relationship with our Lord and Savior. That intimate relationship comes by just speaking to God and listening for His still, small, voice. It also comes through praise, worship, prayer, and by praying in the Spirit. Just as you would have relationship with a human being, so should you with the Father. A key factor in any relationship is communication, and relationship with God is no different.
The Bible says much about renewal, the word renew appears 24 times, from cover to cover. It speaks of renewing lands, covenants, hearts, and minds. Our God is a God of renewal, constantly refreshing this earth and its inhabitants. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! (2 Corinthians 5:17) God is in a constant process of renewing us, because the old us is a grimy, dirty mess. As we renew, we are made more in His image. The more like Him that we become, the more glory He gets. In the book of Romans, the Bible says to be transformed by the renewing of your mind. That renewal comes from hearing, reading, and studying the Word of God. It is a lifelong process to become more like Him, culminating in going to be with Him. I urge you to study the Word of God, using an online Bible site, to look up the words new and renewal, and see just how interested God is in renewing you. Pray the prayer that David prayed in Psalm 51:10, Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. God will answer that prayer and create a steadfast spirit in you that will stand up to all that hastens to knock you down.
Until next time may God bless and keep you, and may His face shine upon you. To our Lord be praise and honor and glory and power, forever and ever. Amen.
