The Japanese are taking vending machines to a whole new level, the machines have fluorescent lighting that produces lettuce, up to 20, 000 heads per year. Dentsu Facility Management in Tokyo, is making the vending machines uder the name, Chefs Farm. Will this be how we grow vegetables in the post-apocalyptic future?
The lighting , solution, and temperature can be controlled for each bed, and five different vegetables can be produced at the same time. A restaurant was the first to get one of the lettuce vending machines June 2010. It takes about an hour to harvest 60 heads of lettuce and plant seeds again.
Just think of the countries this could be used in to curb world hunger, or shipping them into drought or other natural disaster areas to keep the food supply going. Using the lettuce vending machines in a restaurant is one way to keep bacteria from the lettuce that is shipped in through the multiple hands easy., making the spread of bacteria.
