It’s hard to believe, but we’re already two months into 2013. While it seems we were just toasting the New Year, spring is nearly upon us. It’s a good time for a quick check-up on those New Year’s resolutions.
If you are among the 45 percent of Americans who made New Year’s resolutions, there’s a good chance you’ve already broken them. According to the University of Scranton Journal of Clinical Psychology, 36 percent of the people who make New Year’s resolutions don’t keep them beyond one month. More than half abandon their resolutions within the first six months of the year. But there’s still time to get back on track in March. And there’s plenty going on in Cedar Rapids this month to help you do just that.
So just what did you resolve to do? For those of us who make resolutions, about half resolve to make some sort of self improvement, whether to eat better, get fit, or learn something new. And more than one-third of us resolve to lose weight. Were you one of those people? If so, find the resources you need at the New BLUEhemia Blue Zones Project Rally this Saturday, March 2.
The New BLUEhemia rally will be held at locations throughout the NewBo Main Street District and will celebrate Cedar Rapids’ recent selection an Iowa Blue Zones Demonstration Community. The event will kick off at 3:00 p.m. with a welcome by Cedar Rapids Mayor Ron Corbett. Free Blue Zones-inspired activities and entertainment will follow at neighborhood businesses, concluding with a drawing for over $3,000 in prizes at 6:00 p.m. The activities include cooking demonstrations, Zumba and yoga classes, wine tasting, massages, and health screenings. There also will be plenty of kid-friendly entertainment and activities.
Learn how the Blue Zones principles can help us live longer, healthier lives.
