Have you got your Philmont on? Saturday December 3, 2011 is Reach Out and Philmont Someone Day.
I you have ever worked at Philmont, been on a Trek or Cavalcade, taken or taught a course there you have Philmont attire. Break it out and show your Philmont Spirit while holiday shopping.
Take time to connect with others you find in Philmont attire. Share your experiences. Then go to the Facebook page Reach Out and Philmont Someone to tell all of us about it. If you are not on Facebook share your Philmont experiences here in the comment section here. You never know who you may discover was on the trail. Share the impact that the Tooth of Time made on you. Did you check it out over your shoulder as you left camp assuring your return?
Did you spend a day or two at Fish Camp or the Hunting Lodge? Remember the hunting room downstairs at the Villa Philmonte? Recent visitors will hear great stories about the old dining facilities and the trail food, Pemmican anyone? Were you a young scout in the PTC youth program? Was the hike up to Lover’s Leap memorable? Our family has a great mud trek story to share.
Have you taken a week and attended adult training at the Philmont Training Center? Did you learn about great Cubmaster tricks, how the STEM program can work for you or what can Social Media do for your unit? Did you take the family down to Rayado and check out one of Kit Carson’s homes? How about a candlelight tour of the Villa? Maybe you spoiled yourself with a malt at the Cree Mee in town.
There are some fortunate folks who have completed Wood Badge or National Youth Leader Training at the Boy Scout Camp at Philmont. If you find one of those folks you are in for a treat of hours of great stories.
If you have not done an adventure like this, why not? Although treks are booked a year plus in advance there are often open spaces to be filled. Contact the Denver Area Council or your local Boy Scout council for additional information. If you want to take a National Youth Leader Training course, contact Philmont today as those spots fill fast. Consider attending the Philmont Training Center. There are a wide variety of one week courses to take, the 10 weeks of summer sessions are a lot of fun. See the schedule here.
If you are unable to find you Buffalo Jacket, t-shirt or ball cap that sports the Philmont Logo There is another way to show your Philmont. There is a ringtone of the Philmont Hymn. 100% of the proceeds from the $2 ring tone go to the Philmont Staff Association Scholarship fund. This fund annually awards college scholarships to seasonal staff.
Tomorrow see how many people with whom you can share Philmont stories.
Silver on the Sage
Star-lit skies above
Aspen covered hills
Country that I love
Philmont here’s to thee
Scouting paradise
Out in God’s country
