Get your Passport to Cleveland now

Museums can often be some of the most engaging institutions our society offers.  Ideally they are places where you can see and feel history.  Get a real sense that historic events actually occurred.   Where you can see how past cultures lived.  And where, hopefully, we find honest, thorough history. (Creationist/intelligent design museums aside)- And fortunately for all of us Cleveland has a wealth of museum options (over 80) for all tastes. Most of us know about the Rock Hall, art and Natural History museums, but there are so many more- and a wonderful way to appreciate these gems is through a Museology (museum studies) project called Passport to Cleveland.

The idea is-You visit the Passport to Cleveland website.  You sign-up to have a passport sent to you.  On the same website you will find an ever-expanding list of participating museums-  Once you visit all of the museums and get your passport stamped, you send your passport back and receive your very own Passport to Cleveland button.  This little button will be proof to all those who see it-that you are a cultured and highly intelligent citizen.

The current list of participating museums:

The International Women's Air & Space Museum (this one I am very excited about because if you ask in the gift shop they will fetch a child sized space suit that can be donned by your little ones for a great photo-op)

Cleveland Police Museum

Western Reserve Historical Society

Indian Museum of Lake County

Bedford Historical Society

It is important that you visit every museum that is on the list at the time you receive your passport in order to receive your button. (remember more locations are being added as the project progresses)  That does not mean however that you can't take the kids to a few of the spots and have fun visiting and getting your passport stamped in order to promote an early appreciation for history in your children.  The Passport to Cleveland website is a good resource for more information on these museums-including hours, parking, directions and information on any special exhibits.  As for me, I anticipate receiving my passport soon, and look forward to getting out and forcing my daughter into that space suit.
