Get your horse on at Harmony Equine Center event Saturday

DAY FOR HORSES - The Dumb Friends League Harmony Equine Center will host its third annual open house and adoption day Saturday, May 17 at its location, 5540 E. Highway 86, just west of Franktown. Hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Visitors can take guided tours of the facility. There will be refreshments from local food truck vendors and activities for kids, as well as meeting horses available for adoption. No RSVP is required and all ages are welcome.

Professional horse trainer Brent Winston will offer training and demonstrations throughout the day, including how to trailer-load a horse, and how the Harmony Equine Center trains formerly abused and neglected horses so they are ready for adoption.

Guests can also learn about volunteer opportunities, training events and youth camps taking place throughout the summer at the center.

The Harmony Equine Center is a private rehabilitation and adoption facility for horses, ponies, donkeys and mules that have been removed from owners’ care by law enforcement authorities. It is not a sanctuary or a rescue facility, and it does not accept owner-relinquished horses.

Adoption days are every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. or by appointment. More information:(ddfl.org/equine) or call (303) 751-5772.

LUCKY MUTT STRUT - MaxFund Animal Adoption Center’s Lucky Mutt Strut will be Saturday, June 7 at Cheesman Park in Denver and registration is now open. People with or without their canine friends are welcome.

The 5k fun walk or run will be followed by a picnic. To pre-register online or to get more information visit(www.maxfund.org) and click on the “Lucky Mutt Strut” or call 303-547-6195.

MaxFund is also planning these other events:

* The 2nd Annual Black Kitty Party Open House will be Saturday, May 24 at the MaxFund Cat Shelter from noon to 4 p.m. There will be a bake sale and other items for purchase. Attendees can meet black cats and learn more about them.

* The Colorado Rapids are putting on a fundraiser for MaxFund on June 1 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. Festivities will kick off with a tailgate party at 4 p.m., followed at 6 p.m. by kickoff of the game against the Houston Dynamo.

* Charlie's Denver is holding its annual Charlie's K-9 Korral on May 25 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. This dog-friendly event will feature a barbecue, an obstacle course, a high-heel race, MaxFund's adoption van and more.

* Dine at Trattoria Stella on the evening of May 25, and benefit MaxFund. Ten percent of all sales that evening will be donated to MaxFund.

PAINTED CATS GALA - Tickets are now on sale for the 4th annual Tails of the Painted Cats gala dinner and auction, a fundraiser for the Cat Care Society in Lakewood. The event will be Saturday, July 26 from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Pinehurst Country Club in Denver.

Besides selling the event's signature fiberglass cats and kitten paintings, new this year will be the flat cats - 10" x 10" canvas squares, each painted with a unique cat theme. Purchase tickets at(www.catcaresociety.org) or phone (303.239.9680).
