I interviewed Brad Young, PhD regarding his plant-based vitamin formulation RDA-12® to hear why he felt his product was superior to the vast array of vitamin products available on the market. He told me that he developed it while struggling to get into shape after a cycling accident. Having spent his career in the medical sciences, he knew that exercise and plant-based nutrition was key. However, he just could not get the minimum recommended daily servings of whole fruits and vegetables that he needed to supply my body with the vital nutrients it needed normally much less to get back in shape. Realizing that this was not only a problem for himself, but also for his family and friends, he set out to find a solution.

He told me that, according to leading medical professionals and the US Government, a healthy lifestyle that includes plant-based nutrition from whole fruits and vegetables is the best way to increase energy and stamina, support immune health, and reduce the signs and effects of aging. The micronutrients found in whole fruits and vegetables are essential for our bodies to function properly, and they’re key to optimal and continued health. Unfortunately, however, less than a third of Americans are getting the minimum number of servings of fruits and vegetables needed. Eating the recommended 5 to 13 servings of whole fruits and vegetables we need every day is not easy due to the limited availability of fresh, organic produce, the inconvenience of having to frequently purchase fresh produce so it does not spoil, the time required to wash and prepare the produce, and the expense. In fact, the majority of Americans only consume about three servings of fruits and vegetables a day. This is a hidden health crisis that does not get enough attention. In fact, the CDC states that a “diet high in fruits and vegetables can reduce the risk of many leading causes of death and plays an important role in weight management”.

He evaluated multivitamins on the market, including those claiming to be “all-natural.” He found that most of them contain a number of substances that he neither needed nor wanted to put into his body. These supplements contain artificial ingredients such as preservatives, artificial favors, and synthetic vitamins. In addition, synthetic multivitamin tablets are so poorly absorbed that most of the vitamins just go to waste. Thus, he created a unique plant-derived nutritional product to address his own nutritional deficit. He formed a team of scientists developed an innovative process that preserves the essential vitamins found in whole fruits and vegetables and increases their absorption for superior benefit. They transformed the whole produce including the skin, stalk and peel, which are some of the most nutritious parts, into a powdered fruit and vegetable extract preserving the essential nutrients in their most natural state. The result was RDA-12®.

Dr. Young explained that RDA-12® provides pure plant-based nutrition from whole fruits and vegetables; it provides your recommended daily allowance (RDA) for all 12 of the essential vitamins naturally found in fruits and vegetables; thus, it helps you meet your nutritional needs in an easy, safe and affordable way. RDA-12® does not contain preservatives, synthetic chemicals, bacteria, or yeast. In addition it does not contain common allergens including soy, gluten, dairy and nuts. He notes that his product provides the essential nutrients you need from whole fruits and vegetables with nothing else added or used. The nutritional facts panel explains: “Ingredients: Whole fruit and vegetable blend of Apple, Beet, Broccoli, Carrot, Cranberry, Grape, Orange, Pomegranate, Shitake Mushroom, Spinach, Strawberry and Tomato.” In addition, all 12 of the essential vitamins in RDA-12® are derived directly from these same fruits and vegetables. He claims that RDA-12® helps you look, feel, and perform your best with real nutrition from whole fruits and vegetables. I’ve noticed the amazing benefits, and so have many others including moms, students, professionals, athletes, and seniors.

Dr. Young has published 21 peer-reviewed articles in high-impact clinical, biomedical and scientific research journals, and he has received numerous honors including multiple merit scholarships and research grants. He received his PhD in molecular and cell Biology with a minor in physiology from the University of Maryland, School of Medicine, Baltimore. He received his BS and MS degrees in biochemistry and molecular biology from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, and his MBA from the University of California, Berkeley, Haas School of Business.
