Get your 'craic' on: summer Irish festivals across the U.S.

Like highland games, Irish festivals are a great way for Americans to experience the best of traditional and contemporary Celtic culture here in the U.S. These outdoor events feature toe-tapping music from the best local and internationally acclaimed artists, as well as step-dance performances, storytelling, genealogy, arts, crafts, games and food. Plenty of craic ("good times") are on tap at these Irish fests across the country over the next few weekends:

Irish Fair of Minnesota
Harriet Island, MN
August 7th – 9th
Tickets: FREE ADMISSION
Performances include Solas, the Young Dubliners and the Dropkick Murphys

An Rí Rá: Montana Irish Festival
Butte, MT
August 7th, 8th & 9th
Tickets: $10 to $20 – Children 12 and under FREE
Performances include Gráda and The Irish Descendents

Alexandria Irish Festival
Alexandria, VA
August 8th
Tickets: FREE ADMISSION
Performances include the City of Alexandria and Washington Scottish Pipes and Drums bands, various local dance schools, and The Flying Cows of Ventry

Milwaukee Irish Fest
Milwaukee, WI
August 13th – 16th
Tickets: $5 to $15, donations for various causes (see site for ticketing details)
Performances include Natalie MacMaster, Salsa Celtica, Gaelic Storm & The Red Hot Chilli Pipers

Charlotte Irish Summer Festival
Charlotte, NC
August 14th & 15th
Tickets: FREE ADMISSION from noon until 5:00pm; $10 after that
Performances include The Prodigals and Vertigo

East Tennessee Irish Festival
Knoxville, TN
August 22nd
Tickets: Adults $10 – UT Students, Police Officers and Firefighters $5 – Children 12 and under FREE
Performances include the Dublin City Ramblers

The Great Irish Festival
New York City, NY
August 22nd
Tickets: FREE ADMISSION
This is a street fair occurring from 42nd to 56th Streets in mid-town Manhattan from 10:00am-6:00pm

Great Lakes Irish Music Festival
Comstock Park, MI
August 22nd
Tickets: Adults $12.00 – Children ages 3 to 12 $1 – Kids under 3 FREE
Performances include The Elders and Brendan Nolan

Cortland Celtic Festival
Cortland, NY
August 22nd
Tickets: FREE ADMISSION; Registration for 5K Run $12 to $20 (see site for details)
Performances include Ceann and storyteller Deirdre McCarthy

Buffalo Irish Festival
Buffalo, NY
August 28th, 29th & 30th
Tickets: $8 to $12, some events free (see site for ticketing details)
Performances include Bohola and Enter the Haggis

Erin Feis
Peoria, IL
August 28th, 29th & 30th
Tickets: Adults $7 – Events Pass $12 - Children under 12 FREE
Performances include Kennedy’s Kitchen, Slide and Mother Grove

    Kansas City's Irish Festival every year that features great local Irish stores, restaurants, and bands. Plus there are many well known bands that come every year including The Elders, Gaelic Storm, Young Doubliners, Scythian, and Enter the Haggis.
